The Cottage Program

Teen Substance Use Ryther’s Cottage Program (Sub-Acute Residential Treatment) is for children ages 6-14 who need a highly structured and safe living arrangement, while they receive intensive mental health and behavioral health services delivered in a rich therapeutic environment. While most of the children in this program are referred to us by Children’s Administration, an increasing number of children are referred by parents, pediatricians, hospitals and therapists for clients who would benefit from hospital step-down or hospital diversion care. A number of insurance providers cover the service and Ryther can check with insurance providers for coverage.

Our program includes assessment, psychiatry, psychology, evidence-based and experiential therapies, group therapy, family therapy, parent coaching, and an on-campus K-8 Seattle Public School self-contained special education program. With individualized treatment plans and a team approach featuring a low staff-to-child ratio of 1:2 during day time hours, Ryther helps children overcome the effects of trauma, violence and mental illness. Children are able to learn new insights, coping and social skills.

Ryther’s three recently renovated cottages are located on our beautiful ten-acre campus in North Seattle that includes a Challenge Course, covered play area, large play field, multi-use therapy building and climbing wall. Each cottage serves twelve children at a time. We strive for a home-like atmosphere with private rooms, family-style dining, predictable routines and caring and knowledgeable Behavioral Specialist staff.
