CONTINUUM OF CARE

Ryther’s Continuum of Care is a safety net with different layers of support for kids struggling with mental and behavioral health. It’s designed to meet a child where they’re at—whether they need a little help or a lot of it—so they can move forward healthily. Think of it as five “levels” of care, starting with the lightest support and moving up to the most intensive.

Each level works together as steps on a ladder, helping kids climb toward stability, connection, and well-being at their own pace. And because everyone's journey is unique, kids can move up or down the levels of care whenever they need to. Whether it’s a little help or a lot, Ryther is there for kids and families every step of the way!

Level 1:  Social Skills Groups

  • This is a great place to start if a child needs help learning how to navigate friendships, communication, and everyday interactions. Kids work with others to build confidence, develop new social skills, and find their footing in a supportive group setting.

Level 2:  Outpatient Therapy

  • Outpatient therapy offers regular check-ins with a therapist. Kids and families meet with a counselor to talk, work through challenges, and build tools to feel better. It’s ideal for kids who need extra support but can still manage their daily lives.

Level 3: Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

  • For kids who need more than weekly therapy, intensive outpatient programs provide additional support without taking them away from home. They come to Ryther for several hours a few days a week, working in group therapy and individually to dig deeper into their challenges and learn ways to cope. If they need less support, they can step back to outpatient therapy. If they need more, they can transition to the next level of care.

Level 4: Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

  • This level allows kids to pause their usual day-to-day routine for a short time. They spend most of their day at Ryther participating in therapy, group activities, and skill-building before heading home each evening. It’s a good option when life feels overwhelming, and kids need a focused, structured environment to start healing. If they make progress, they can step back to IOP or outpatient therapy. If they need more help, residential treatment is the next step.

Level 5: Residential Treatment

  • At the highest level of care, kids live at Ryther for a period of time to receive 24/7 support. Here, they are surrounded by a caring team that works with them intensively on their mental and behavioral health. It’s a place where kids can step away from everyday stress, build strength, and develop the skills they need to return home feeling healthier and more confident. When ready, they can step back down to PHP, IOP, or outpatient therapy to continue their progress.
