Unhoused / Houseless Youth
Learning Pathway Component
Ryther serves Unhoused/Homeless Youth across numerous sites around Seattle, including drop-in centers, transitional living programs, at our North Seattle campus, and via telehealth. Interns in this Learning Pathway will work alongside a dedicated team of clinicians serving houseless youth and collaborate with numerous community partners.
We are currently accepting the following internship applications for this Learning Pathway below.

Common Learning Activities:
Provide individual therapy with unhoused, formerly unhoused, and at-risk youth and young adults (generally ages 13-24 years old)
Gain experience with in-person and virtual therapy
Collaborate at team meetings and consultations focused specifically on issues relevant to unhoused/homeless youth
Co-facilitate group therapy at community partner site(s)
Learn from Individual and group supervision weekly
Educate staff at partner sites about basic mental health concepts
Partner with medical providers at a medical clinic(s) specifically for unhoused youth
Collaborate with case managers, SUD counselors, outreach staff, and other professionals
Broaden your scope with SUD and Co-Occurring MH/SUD counseling (pending credentials)
TRAININGS
Our rigorous onboarding process includes a variety of core trainings such as:
Motivational Interviewing
Behavior management and crisis de-escalation
Trauma-informed care
Record keeping and clinical writing
Workplace expectations
Ethical decision-making
Case management skills
Additionally, students in this Learning Pathway get specific training and supervision in:
Introductory DBT Skills training
Weekly consult group for practitioners working with unhoused/homeless youth
Introductory training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for youth and young adults
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Applying Trauma Informed Practices in therapy
REQUIRED ELEMENTS
To fully participate in this Learning Pathway, interns should meet the following requirements:
Available to attend required team meetings every Wednesday 10:00am-12:00pm.
Able to work in-person, including at least one day a week at a community partner site. Hybrid work is available.
Can maintain practicum placement for no less than 9 months (3 quarters) for 2nd Year/Advanced Master’s students. Bachelor’s and 1st Year Master’s students will be considered for shorter placements.
Able to complete assigned tasks outside of their specific Learning Pathway based on agency needs, school/program requirements, and individual learning goals.
Acceptance of and ability to work with individuals and families with a variety of identities, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices with the ability to apply a social justice and equity lens to all aspects of this work.
